This post was not about swearing but now it is. [Clean]
So, yesterday (Monday the 24th of August, 2009) I began my first day at Cleveland State. This is my third university to attend and the first not to be a "Christian" university.
My two previous institutions of high education had been associated with some religious denominations. The first, Southern Baptist, and the second, Evangelical Friend. Let's just say that the second was less strict but still had plenty of rules not established at most schools. One of these rules was in regards to language.
We weren't allowed to swear. Actually we weren't even allowed to have swear words written in Facebook statuses (or probably anywhere else online) without risking the chance of a warning or subsequent fine. Now I don't tend to swear but this still bothered me a little. What really bothered me was that they claimed the right to warn/fine us even if we were not on campus or if classes were in session. That I'm pretty sure is not right, not even a little. I have gotten off track though. This is me saying way too much to only reach the conclusion that it was weird to hear teachers swear.
This post has become more about swearing than my first day of university. Right now it is titled "First Day of Uni and other stuff." (It was about my first day of uni and other stuff.) Now it will be titled something different.
So, were talking about swearing. (Don't worry I'll keep this clean for the kids.) I personally don't really swear. I also don't have a problem with swearing. I think it's a little odd we put a label on some set of words because someone (seriously who made "swear words" swear words?) decided they were inappropriate. I will admit a few words I do say however. Darn, crap, heck, freaking, douchebag (this one not too often just because it really is a horrible thing to call someone(I mean seriously, people thing about what you are calling someone with this one)), bullcrap, pissed, and worst of all "The pestilence and pox on you!, A plague on both your houses!" (Found this last one in a list of types of profanity on Wikipedia in the profanity article.)
What makes those words acceptable? They in every essence mean the same thing and allow me to express the same emotion. Now the people against swearing would argue that we should all just use those words since they tend not to offend or offend less. Understandable. But why not say the "bad" words? I don't really have a point here to my knowledge. I just think it's weird we put special value on some words when their synonyms mean the same thing.
I will say this before I finish up. People who cannot complete sentences (or every few sentences) without swearing does bother me. It's just that excessive swearing seems unnecessary when you are just sitting around talking. Swearing in place of adjectives does just seem unnecessary most of the time. Not to mention most of the time the object that is "f-ing" is in no way engaging in any type of that particular activity.
So, what is my final conclusion? I don't recommend swearing around people that it offends but there nothing more inherently evil in those words than ones on the same meaning which are acceptable to almost everyone and swearing too much is just annoying.

What I've been up to. (A footnote to a vlog)
In the past two week I have only posted two vlogs. The one that most likely lead you to this blog and the one a week ago about my 21st birthday and vegetarianism. Now, I am pretty sick of vlogs that are just about why I haven't made a video so I will you a few reasons here so you can just read it quickly rather than watch lame video.
Last week I began painting my room which has been taking up time and will probably take up time for at least another week since I'm a slow painter and it isn't super important to me. Last I also had a few things to do to prep for university. I had to finish my enrollment process at Cleveland State, go to orientation, and withdraw from Malone among other things. Now for the more current reason. A guy from my last university had been hosting my site. I won't go into all the reasons but I decided to my my site from his hosting and using Wordpress to the hosting on Blogger. Mainly it gives me a lot more instant control over my blog. Not that these last two are good reasons but I have been reripping all of my albums back onto my computer after my recent reformat. Sure, I have them all saved on my external hard drive but I felt like ripping them again. Lastly and probably my worst but most awesome and nerdiest reason, I have been watching a ton of Star Trek: The Next Generation. I actually just finished the series and am starting the movies today.
So, that's why I've been busy and welcome to the new site!
