Daisy by Brand New
If you’re a Brand New fan you never know what to expect from the band and if you’re not a Brand New fan yet, well you really don’t know what to expect. Brand New has come a long way from their angry pop punk debut with Your Favorite Weapon with their forth studio release “Daisy.” Musically it is the band’s best performance. Being far more experiment than their past two albums using vocal distortion on an entire track so much that unless you’re really listening you probably won’t have a clue to what they are singing. “Daisy” also has a much heavier feeling than their other with screaming being used multiple times throughout the tracks. Brand New is known for their amazing lyrics and metaphors. Off the single one verse reads, “A deer that a hunter shot in the heart/ Some dogs that got hit by cars/ All came to spill their guts.” One thing that has carried over from all their albums is their often dark and haunting lyrics like “Lie to all your friends” and “Some men die under the mountain just looking for gold/ Some die looking for a hand to hold.” Even if the “dark” “indie-rock” thing isn’t your normal forte Daisy is definitely an album worth giving a listen or two. It’s one of those rare albums where you rather just listen the whole album all the way through each time rather than hearing your one of two favorite songs on shuffle. Even without super catchy melodies Daisy is a brilliant and beautiful album. And if you’re lucky enough to get a copy of the single there’s a live studio version of “Jesus” (the single from their last album) performed with Kevin Devine.
